15 August 2018 Happy Independence Day
Dear Parents,
JGS family extends warm greetings and best wishes on the occasion of Independence Day. For any country, its journey into the future is influenced by the journey of its past. Hence it is important for the present generation to learn and recognize the sacrifices by our great leaders & freedom fighters had made for us. It is a high time to talk to the children about the inspirational guidance that the leaders had provided to those millions of Indians for whom freedom was just an imagination. To recall, some of the major instances of the freedom struggle are:
• 1757 -1858 – East India Company officially ruled in India
• 1857- Mangal Pandey & the Sepoy mutiny took place
• 1858- British Raj implemented
• 1915- Mahatma Gandhi with a tool of ‘Non-violence’ enters in India
• 13 April, 1919- Jallianwalla Bagh Massacre was conspired
• 1920- Non-cooperation Movement
• 1929- Call for Purna Swaraj
• 1930- Dandi March initiated
• 1942- Quit India Movement
• 1947- India got Independence with partition
• 1947- In the mid night Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru delivered his great speech : ‘Tryst with Destiny’
• 1947-1948- Unification of independent 562 princely states in United India was done by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
Our freedom struggle witnessed the sacrifices of some great martyrs like: Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Chandrasekhar Azad and Khudiram Bose. However there are many who are still not known to us.
It also saw world class political leadership in: Mahatama Gandhi, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Subhash Chandra Bose, Acharya J B Kripalani, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Dr. B R Ambedkar, Rabindranath Tagore, Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, Sarojini Naidu etc.
A few thought-provoking slogans that stirred the masses and instigated the feelings of nationalism:
• ‘Satyameva Jayate’ : Madan Mohan Malviya
• ‘Give me blood and I will give you freedom’ : Subhash Chandra Bose
• ‘Inquilab Zindabad’ : Hasrat Mohani
• ‘Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna, Ab hamare dil mein hai’ : Ramprasad Bismil
• ‘Vande Mataram’ : Bankim Chandra Chattopdhayay
• “Swaraj mera Janamsiddha Adhikar hai’ : Bal Gangadhar Tilak
Therefore, it is evident that there is so much to learn from our past. It naturally guides us to walk on the path of non-violence, compassion, and equality.
Once again we make a humble request to all JGS parents/guardians to involve the children in discussion about the events, circumstances or heroes of our freedom struggle. To begin with, discuss about the character sketch of one freedom fighter this year. We hope that the young minds will imbibe the values fostered by the freedom fighters.
Yours sincerely,
Team JGS
