“Be the change that you wish to see in the world”, Mahatma Gandhi

Dear Parents,

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, we take this opportunity to rejoice with you remembering a great human life who experimented with the truth. Mohan Das Karamchand Gandhi, like many children remained fascinated towards stories narrated to him in the school. His life is an example that how the moral of a story transforms somebody’s life. Gandhi Ji was influenced by the story of Raja Harish Chandra who had to face a lot of difficulties to protect the truth. He lost his kingdom, lost his wealth, had to live in the forest and had to sell his wife and son too. Ultimately he had to sell himself to the keeper of the cremation ground. He had to go through these hair-raising experiences but still he remained truthful. Gandhi ji had the impression that bearing grief like King Harishchandra and yet remaining truthful is the real truth!

As a child he was not very bold, he had phobia from darkness and spirits. The child to whom the family members used to question, “What will you do when you grow up?” Now, his name stands so tall that it transcends the bounds of race, religion and nation. It has emerged as the prophetic voice of the twenty-first century. He is a tested name for the passionate adherence to the practice of non-violence and humanism in every corner of the world. It is from Gandhi ji that all the Indian leaders during freedom struggle learnt how ‘not to fear’ the British gun.

Now we acknowledge what a miraculous person he was! He lives in the hearts of millions of Indians and is respected by all. Other than becoming a pioneering leader, his efforts for Hindu-muslim unity, banishing untouchability, gram swaraj, sanitation in rural areas, and promotion of small scale industry & self spun Khadi are all nation building ideas. To achieve his goal, the tools used by him were from Indian mythology like upavas, satyagrah and ahinsa. The reflection of his sincerity & dedication can be seen in the response of people who were always ready to lay down their lives for him. He is a rare example of accountability who admitted his mistakes and never blamed anyone.

Even after having a great leader like Gandhi ji, still there are many unethical practices being followed in each section of the society. We cannot limit Gandhi ji’s leadership only for freedom struggle. He was a disguised saint in the incarnation of a politician. We can take great wisdom from his ideology. According to him there are seven social sins to refrain from such as: politics without principles; wealth without work; commerce without morality; education without character; pleasure without conscience; science without humanity; worship without sacrifice are very common. It requires spiritual awakening and indomitable courage which Gandhi ji proved that an ordinary person can also have it. He was a common man on the footsteps of Buddha and Jesus. These days to fight against these sins, people need a strong leader like Gandhi Ji.

His simplicity, self confidence, truthfulness and empathetic nature allows people to admire him and have faith in his deeds. For many, who had not seen him may wonder about a person like him. Keeping these surprising sentiments in mind Albert Einstein had once said, “Generations to come will scarcely believe that such a man as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth”.

Therefore it is our humble request to our parents to share the memories you have about Mahatma Gandhi and why he is known as the Father of Nation. We hope any intimate incident narrated by you will spark a positive impact in your ward’s life.

Yours sincerely,
