Children's Day
Every child comes with the message that God is not yet discouraged of man. — Rabindranath Tagore
Dear Parents,
On the Occasion of Children’s Day we would like to draw your attention towards the purity and innocence that the children represent. It reminds us that the first phase of humanity is pristine and divine. There’s joy & wonder when you see the world through the eyes of children; the children bind us together and their care shapes the future of humanity. Undoubtedly Children are the most valuable asset for any society.
In India ‘Bal Diwas’, Children’s Day is celebrated on 14 Nov however at the global level, it is observed as ‘Universal Children’s Day’ on 20 Nov. Basically, It is a day to honour the little humans, increase awareness towards the fundamental right that each child must have i.e. care, proper health, elementary education, family life, recreation, an adequate standard of living, protection from any kind of abuse and harm. For JGS team the significance of this day is to spread the message of childhood and how to enhance childhood with good schooling & good parenting. Here are a few suggestions to share with you:
Schools play a vital role in shaping the personality of the children. The identity of a successful person is known by the school of thoughts. Can we imagine any schools which are happiness centres? Most of the children interpret their school as building where they are caged. Physically they sit in the classrooms and mentally they dream of ecstasy in outside world. Does any school ensure that the children take home happiness lessons with them? Can we see change through schools? Unless we focus skills & creativity in education instead of grades and certificates, we cannot shift our focus on true education. But at JGS, we are very sensitive for all these issues and they are being addressed in phased manner.
We advise parents to personally examine the teaching learning approaches, techniques, and ideologies a school promote. Is there any school where children are allowed to think like children? The Govt. has introduced scholarships, books, dresses and mid-day meal schemes in Govt. schools so that children feel homely. But it is not going to change the real picture of our education. Childhood does not think of differences of class, caste, colour or status. We believe children should not be discriminated.
For Parents we recommend to:
Shun the Burden of 21st Century (No time for Children): These days both the parents are working full time, the parents are so overworked and stressed from problems at the office that they don’t have any emotional energy left for their children. Under these circumstances not only do children spend less time with their parents, they have less connect with each other.
Allow Children to Express: Many a times the minute children start to talk the parents jump in, telling them what they ought to think before they finish their talk. It’s sheer violation of children’s self-esteem. Everyone appreciates being understood and having the feelings validated
Build a Tradition of Togetherness: Rituals and traditions help make up the bond that holds families together. Praying, reading stories, going for morning / evening walks, going for small family outings and having dinner together is a nice way to reconnect after a day-long break. Contrary to this, if everybody is grabbing their own food and eating in front of television or a computer, then family members won’t have that interaction and may start to grow apart very soon.
Let Elders be Mentors: Youngsters need elders in their lives other than just their parents. Teens especially need other adults around whom they can feel comfortable talking to. Some of the best mentors for the teens may be uncle, aunt, grandparents, family friends, neighbours or a college student.
Parents are the strongest Influence: We believe that there is a child in each one of us; childhood stories change with generations but the innocence of those days remains the same, childhood memories hold a special place in everyone’s heart. Therefore we expect our parents to make this day a momentous one in children’s life which establishes that childhood is special.
Yours sincerely,
Team JGS
